Los Foo Fighters fueron fundados en 1994 por Dave Grohl después de la ruptura de la banda Nirvana, en la que Grohl era el baterista. Mientras que las canciones de Nirvana se caracterizan por el grunge bruto, los Foo Fighters podrían denominarse como Rock Alternativo.
En su repertorio se incluyen numerosos y difíciles éxitos como "Presenting" o "Best of You", así como canciones de rock downtempo como "Learn to fly".
Especialmente sus videos musicales, por ejemplo en el éxito de rock "Everlong", llevan un alto grado de auto ironía y muestran la actitud fría y relajada de la banda, que ya se puede intuir en su nombre: El ejército de los EE.UU. llamó ’Foo’ durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial a los objetos voladores no identificables.
