String Quartet No. 1 op. 2/141

Weinberg’s first major composition is String Quartet No. 1, Op. 2. When he wrote it in 1937, he was still more or less self-taught as a composer. He revisited the quartet almost 50 years after its creation and reworked it extensively. During his lifetime, it was never premiered. That happened only in 1997 - a year after the composer’s death - in Sweden, with the Gothenburg Quartet.
