Maestoso 3

Majestic music for the queen of instruments! That is what this third volume of the "Maestoso" series wants to present again.

According to literature, the term "maestoso" describes a recital that is frequently connected to a tempo order like e.g. Lento maestoso, Allegro maestoso and others. The term is often explained as "with a defmitely serious and solemn expression" or "in a majestic and splendid way".

How different a Maestoso can be is described in Johann Gottfried Walter's Musical Encyclopedia published in 1732, in which the term Maestoso is explained as "... impressive and slow, but with a certain vivid expression". In any case, the tempo order hints to a majestic and solemn characterof the work.

The present collection contains works that comply with these definitions and that may defmitely be used as solemn and splendid organ music in church Services. On the one hand, it deals with pieces of rather unknown composers such as Jean-Francois Dandrieu, William Boyce, Theophile Stern and others, but on the other hand also such as Felix Mendelssohn Batholdy, Samuel Wesley, Nicolas Lemmens or Lion Boellmann. The collection is completed by three hymn arrangements that may defmitely be used as opening or closing sections.

This volume comprises a collection of compositional treasures, simply a bouquet of flowers for the queen of instruments.
