Descripción

"Sinfonietta Nr. 2" is based on cornerstones of history from the Austrian town Timelkam (Ober-Österreich). The Castle: It was the impressive history of the Neuwartenburg castle that inspired the composer to open the Sinfonietta with a powerful fanfare in the style of classical party music. Dominated by brass players, there is some minimal accompaniment added to create a symbiosis between the past and present. After a lyrical middle section the opening repeats to create a classic A-B-A form. The Church – The St. Anna Cathedral In no other place can you find happiness and sadness so close together as in a church, which is why the second movement begins with a quote from the writings from the Introit of a Requiem: "Lord, give them eternal peace – You will receive praise. Lord – Answer my prayer". After this introduction, a choral follows, to which an Ave Maria answers. Fritz Neuböck was lucky enough to visit the church during renovations, which made it possible for him to almost touch the roof by climbing the scaffolding. This is how he discovered that a text "Locus Iste" by Anton Bruckner was written in one of the arches. That is why he quietly combined the embellishment of the Ave Maria with this Bruckner choral and placed this beautiful work in the middle of his composition. People believe that when they are at the height of the top of the cathedral they’re almost in heaven. The composer felt that he only had to take one step through the beautiful church windows to reach heaven-- and that is how the end of the second part should be interpreted. The Market: Timelkam and its market are inseparably linked. Whether it be the stresses of today’s grocery shoppers today or just browsing the historical annual market, Fritz Neuböck has tried to bring all those different aspects together with an ecclesiastic and worldly mindset. The Market Tower In the fourth movement, the market tower is depicted as a sort of "guard" of history. The tower has been used for many purposes in its colorful history and still remains as an important intersection. And so begins the end of Neuböck’s Sinfonietta, with tower bells at daybreak. Slowly, the region awakes and in the distance a parade of people walks toward the market tower. This parade forms an impressive conclusion to this composition in the form of a triumphant march.
