Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

Richard Wagner has repeatedly expressly described only one of his operas as his "masterpiece": his "Meistersinger von Nürnberg". From the first creative thoughts to their completion, the great poet composer has worked with the material for almost three decades. Between his early recordings in 1845 and his completion in 1867 lies the creation of most of his other important works, including the opera "Tristan und Isolde".

That Wagner did not take up this "Volksoper" again until the 1960s to complete it is also due to the fact that he always had to fight for recognition and economic success and was therefore overloaded with many projects and constantly traveling. Thus he had not previously found the muse to complete the "Meistersinger". Then, however, the "Meistersinger" were one of his most important works, as it shaped a new sound in the opera world.

Wagner for brass music? This question is unnecessary when you know that Wagner himself composed some works for symphonic wind orchestra. He has also written wind arrangements, e.g. for the "Tannhäuser", for military orchestras. Wagner also always agreed with arrangements of parts of his works for wind orchestra, as they supported his efforts to gain recognition among a broad audience.
